Studying abroad is a central part of the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2021-2022 and has been shown to have a positive effect on later job prospects. It is also an opportunity to improve language skills, gain self-confidence and independence, and immerse yourself in a new culture. Erasmus+ also offers the chance to combine studying abroad with a traineeship.

Opportunities by Erasmus Mundus are available for students at Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral levels.

Who can apply for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?

Erasmus+ is open to many individuals and organizations, although eligibility varies from one action to another and from one country to another.

Individuals can take part in many of the opportunities funded by Erasmus+, although most will have to do so through an organization taking part in the program. The eligibility of individuals and organizations depends on the country in which they are based.

Eligible countries are divided into two groups, Programme countries, and Partners countries. Although Programme countries are eligible for all actions of Erasmus+, Partner countries can only take part in some and are subject to specific conditions.

For nearly 30 years, the EU has funded the Erasmus program, which has enabled over three million European students to spend part of their studies at another higher education institution or with an organization in Europe. Erasmus+ brings such opportunities to all – students, staff, trainees, teachers, volunteers, and more. It’s not just about Europe or Europeans either – with Erasmus+, people from all over the world can access opportunities.

Benefits of Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

By studying abroad with Erasmus+, you can improve your communication, language, and inter-cultural skills and gain soft skills highly valued by future employers. You may receive an Erasmus+ grant as a contribution to your travel and subsistence costs. It may vary according to differences in living costs between your country and the destination country, the number of students applying for a grant, the distance between countries, and the availability of other grants.

As an Erasmus+ student, you will be exempted from fees for tuition, registration, examinations, and charges for access to laboratories or libraries at the receiving institution. Small fees for insurance or student union membership may still apply.

Some of the benefits are listed below:

    • Free Education in any Partner European University
    • Monthly Stipend
    • Health insurance
    • Travel expenses and Accommodation is complementary
    • Expense of airfare
    • No Bond to sign for returning to home country after finishing education

You can also combine your period spent studying abroad with an Erasmus traineeship to gain work experience – ever more important when starting out on the job market. Opportunities to study abroad are available to students at Bachelor and Master levels and Doctoral candidates. Master students taking a full degree abroad (up to two years) may be able to benefit from an EU-guaranteed Erasmus+ Master Loan. Students with physical, mental, or health-related conditions may apply for additional funding after they have been selected to study abroad.

Duration of Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

Your study period abroad can last from a minimum of 3 months (or 1 academic term or trimester) to a maximum of 12 months.

You can benefit from an exchange abroad with Erasmus+ multiple times, either as a student or as a trainee, but your total time abroad (study abroad periods included) may not exceed 12 months within one cycle of study.

Cycle” refers to the level of study as defined by the European Qualifications Framework (EQF):
