Previously known as Taihoku Imperial University, the National Taiwan University in Taipei was launched in 1928. The university got its current name when the Republic of China took over in 1945. The university has pledged its commitment to social responsibility in promoting the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) both locally and globally. As proof, it offers almost a thousand sustainability-related courses and has over 80 clubs dedicated to sustainability.

The National Taiwan University ranks as the number one university in Taiwan. It has hundreds of partner universities in over 60 countries. These partnerships allow its students to participate in world-class researches. To further attract more international students, National Taiwan University gives scholarships as well as continues to expand its English course offerings. It also houses the largest university library in Taiwan, which offers 24-hour study rooms for students.

National Taiwan University Scholarships

1. Sinotech Scholarship

  • Scholarship Link
  • Scholarship Amount: NTD20,000 per month for one year
  • Degrees Offered: Ph.D. in Civil Engineering

The Sinotech Scholarship offers this award to outstanding international students who want to pursue a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at National Taiwan University. The department aims to attract international students mainly from Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. This scholarship is sponsored by Sinotech Engineering Consultants, Ltd.

2. Financial Assistance Grant for International Students

  • Scholarship Amount: Tuition waiver + NTD6,000 monthly allowance
  • Degrees Offered: Undergraduate

All prospective international undergraduate students may receive this scholarship at the National Taiwan University, and it is valid for four years. Scholars may receive a tuition waiver worth NTD130,000 per year.

Applicants who qualify for a Taiwan government scholarship are not eligible to avail of this grant.

3. Outstanding International Graduate Student Scholarship

  • Degrees Offered: Master’s; Ph.D.

National Taiwan University invites all international students to apply for this scholarship. The tuition waiver covers NTD130,000 of the tuition fee per year for the duration of the program. Master’s degree students may benefit from the scholarship for two years, while Ph.D. students may do so for three years.

Master’s degree students are entitled to an NTD6,000 monthly allowance, whereas Ph.D. students can get NTD8,000.

4. Scholarship for Latin America and Caribbean Project

  • Degrees Offered: Master’s; Ph.D.

This scholarship at National Taiwan University is limited to interested applicants from Belize, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Saint Christopher and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Every year, thirty scholars may benefit from this scholarship for either a 2-year Master’s degree or a 3-year Ph.D.

5. MOFA Taiwan Scholarship

  • Degrees Offered: Undergraduate; Master’s; Doctoral

International students from countries with a diplomatic relationship with Taiwan can receive the MOFA Taiwan Scholarship.

Undergraduate students may receive the monthly allowance for a maximum of four years. Master’s degree students may receive it for two years, and Doctoral degree students may do so for a maximum of four years.

6. MOE Taiwan Scholarship

  • Degrees Offered: Undergraduate; Master’s; Doctoral

Interested applicants from countries not eligible for the MOFA scholarship may apply for the MOE Taiwan scholarship. The scholarship coverage period is the same. However, this scholarship offers an additional tuition waiver benefit worth NTD40,000 per year.

With this National Taiwan University, undergraduate scholars may receive an NTD15,000 monthly allowance, whereas Master’s and Doctoral degree students may receive NTD20,000.

7. Taipei City ICT Southern Diamond Talent Convergence Plan

  • Scholarship Amount: Tuition fee (NTD80,000 per year) + accommodation allowance (NTD3,000 per month)
  • Degrees Offered: Master’s; Ph.D.

This scholarship grant is for students from Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and India interested in applying for a two-year Master’s Degree or a four-year Ph.D. in an ICT-related field.

The Taipei City ICT Southern Diamond Talent Convergence Plan is a project scholarship. Interested applicants may contact the Office of International Affairs to confirm the availability of this scholarship.

8. NTU-SEARCA Joint Scholarship Program on Global Agriculture Technology and Genomic Science

Nationals of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) member countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam may apply for this scholarship.
