The Hamburg Institute for Social Research (HISR), has a tradition of focusing on the phenomenon of violence. The Research projects that can cover the gap between theoretical debates on violence and analyses of monetary disorders are especially welcome. The Ph.D. scholarships for international students will be awarded for innovative project ideas that deal with empirical cases to critically engage in these theoretical debates and seek to articulate individual or independent positions.

Benefits of Hamburg Institute for Social Research (HISR) Scholarships for International Students in Germany

The Hamburg Institute for Social Research (HISR), is providing the following benefits.

  • A stipend of worth 1,400 EUR will be given on a monthly basis
  • The traveling expenditures will be covered under this scholarship.
  • Books and other research-related expenses that are appropriate to the requirements of the respective project will be covered under this scholarship.
  • Scholarship recipients will receive supplements for one or more children and may be eligible for further supplements.
  • The scholarships will be awarded for two years with an option for an extension of up to two further years.

Eligibility Criteria for Hamburg Institute for Social Research (HISR) Scholarships for International Students in Germany

  • Applicants must have an above-average degree in history, sociology, economics, political science, cultural studies, or a related discipline.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.
