Getting a degree in a country like America can break the bank for you. We all know it. But, there are plenty of scholarships available that can partially or fully fund your stay in America. These scholarships are mostly offered by the universities themselves. But, a number of scholarships are also funded by the government, private organizations, and donors. In order to qualify for those scholarships, you either need to have an excellent academic record or an impressive list of extracurricular participation. Some scholarships are also offered on a financial need basis.

There are hundreds of higher education institutions in the USA, but the most sought after of them are Harvard, Stanford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), UCB, and Columbia. If you are an international student and are not a native English speaker, you may have to prove your English language proficiency via IELTS, TOEFL, etc. But, some schools give you an exception, if you can prove that your previous institution used English as a primary medium of instruction. A student visa in the USA allows you to work for up to 20 hours a week on campus when the academic session is on. Whereas, you can work for up to forty hours in the holiday season.

  • Fulbright Scholarships:

The Fulbright program immediately comes to mind when we talk about fully funded scholarships. The Fulbright scholarships are available to international students with excellent undergraduate or graduate records for pursuing a master’s or Ph.D. in the USA. It covers the students’ tuition, living costs, airfare, accommodation, textbooks expenses, and health insurance along with a monthly stipend.

  • American University Scholarships:

American University (AU) offers a very limited number of scholarships to international students. These scholarships are only offered on the basis of academic excellence. The worth of these awards is $6000 to $25000 a year and these are also renewable provided that the students maintain a certain level of academic achievement.

  • Berea College Scholarships:

Berea College gives out 100% scholarship to all the international students for the first year of their studies. In the following years, the college has a number of part-time jobs available, through which students are able to somewhat offset their living expenses.

  • Colby-Sawyer College Scholarships:

Colby-Sawyer College gives out partial scholarships to international students based on merit. The higher the grades, the better the scholarship. The value of the scholarship ranges from $15,000 to $28,000 a year. The amount of the scholarship contributes toward the tuition fee of the students.

  • Concordia College Scholarships:

Concordia College offers International Excellence Scholarships to international students. These scholarships are competitive and can support the students for up to four years depending upon their progress in the college. The value of it goes up to $28,000 a year.

  • East Tennessee State University Scholarships:

East Tennessee State University (ETSU) gives out partially funded scholarships to international students. The worth of the scholarships is $11,500 a year for bachelor’s degree students and $12,000 a year for master’s students.

  • Emory College Scholarships:

Emory College offers a limited number of fully and partially funded grants to international students. These scholarships are primarily need-based and merit-based. The students in dire need of a scholarship with impressive academic records can get a fully-funded scholarship.

  • Iowa State University Scholarships:

Iowa State University scholarships are being offered to international students and are completely merit-based. The scholarship committee takes into account the students’ SAT/ACT scores and high school results. The minimum award is worth $2000 and can go up to $10,000 a year. These scholarships are renewable.

  • New York University Scholarships:

New York University’s Wagner scholarships are open for both local and international students and are worth around $25,000 to $47,000 a year. The scholarship amount can cover the students’ partial to the full tuition fee.

  • Wesleyan University Scholarships:

The Freeman Asian Scholars Program of Wesleyan University waives the full tuition fee of 11 most exceptional Asian students. In addition to that, the university also offers almost 30 more scholarships to international students based on their merit or demonstrated financial need.

  • Amherst College Scholarships:

Amherst College offers scholarships to international students on a need basis. The applicants are asked to prove their financial need. The awards are based on how much a student deserves the scholarship. The awards are in the form of grants and on-campus employment.

  • Clark University Scholarships:

Clark University offers scholarships to international students worth around $15,000 to $25,000 a year. It also offers a $2500 stipend for an internship or research program that the awardees have to take during summer in their sophomore or senior year. These scholarships are also open to students who have attended at least four years of school outside of the US.

  • Columbia College Scholarships:

Columbia College gives 15% to 100% tuition fee waivers to high potential international students. Some scholarships are also given in the form of cash (one time) at the time of admission.

  • Dartmouth College Scholarships:

Dartmouth College gives out scholarships to both local and international students on a financial need basis. The scholarship value is a partial waiver of tuition fee along with a travel allowance to coming to the US.

  • East-West Center Scholarships:

East-West Center provides scholarships at the graduate level to masters and Ph.D. students. The grants are given for 24 months and only the students from certain countries can get them. These are meant to be for the students who participate in a developmental program while they are studying at the University of Hawaii. 

  • Illinois Wesleyan University Scholarships:

Illinois Wesleyan University offers partial scholarships to international students who have outstanding academic records and do well in the entrance tests. The worth of the awards is $16,000 to $30,000 a year and the grant is renewable. President’s International Student Scholarships are given to two of the international students every year and are fully funded.

  • Michigan State University Scholarships:

Michigan State University gives partial scholarships in a very limited number to international students. These are given at the under and postgraduate levels. The scholarships are not fully funded so the students can only rely on them to a certain degree.

  • Oregon University Scholarships:

Oregon University offers a diverse range of scholarships to students every year. These scholarships are partially and fully funded. These are given on the basis of the students’ academic excellence, demonstrated financial need, and extracurricular involvement.

  • University of the West Scholarships:

A certain percentage of tuition fee is waived for the most outstanding students every year at the University of the West. The President’s Award and the Dean’s list are the most prestigious awards. The tuition fee in these awards is waived up to 15 units per semester.

  • Harvard University:

Up to six Britons are given full scholarships at Harvard. The Britons need to be enrolled in a graduate or a research program to receive a full tuition fee waiver, health insurance, and a stipend for covering living costs.

  • University of Wisconsin Scholarships:

The University of Wisconsin offers generous tuition fee discounts to non-residents and international students. The undergraduate tuition can be reduced to a surprising £6,523.

  • Brandeis University Scholarships:

Brandeis University gives scholarships to international students based on their financial need. The students receiving it are top-notch in their studies and demonstrate their need for the scholarship. The grant also offers a round-trip plane ticket every year to the awardees.

  • Oklahoma Baptist University Scholarships:

Oklahoma Baptist University gives out scholarships to local and international students. The value of the undergraduate award is $7,000 a year. All the subject areas are open to this scholarship. 

  • Fairleigh Dickinson University Scholarships:

Fairleigh Dickinson University has opened up its graduate scholarships to which both local and international students can apply. The value of the scholarship is $10,000 and is given on academic merit basis.

  • St. Norbert College Grant:

St. Norbert College offers scholarships to undergraduate international students every year. The winning students get a tuition fee discount and the grant is awarded purely on the basis of high school grades and extracurricular participation.

  • Fordham University Scholarships:

Fordham University’s undergraduate Theater funding is open for international students which covers the full tuition fee of the awardees. The grant also covers the grantees’ meals and dorm room charges. The students must have a CGPA of 3.0 in order to keep getting the scholarship.

  • University of Mississippi Scholarship:

University of Mississippi’s Freshman awards is given to the students at the time of admission. There is no need to apply separately for the scholarship. The worth of the award is $3,900 to $23,454. It is open for all subjects taught at the university.

  • Bushnell University Scholarship:

Bushnell University is offering scholarships to its local and international students which is worth up to $10,000. The scholarship is given to the students who have received an admission offer from the university.

  • University of Tulsa Funding:

The University of Tulsa has opened up a scholarship program that offers grants to Iranian and local students. The awardees will receive a hefty grant from the university which is usually enough to cover all of their educational expenses.

  • Tulane University Global Funding Program:

Tulane University offers full and partial scholarships to its high standing international students. It is awarded to 20% of its student body every year who have the highest high school grades.
