The University of Liverpool is a first-class public research university in the city of Liverpool, England. It was established as one of the original “red brick universities” in the late 19th century. It is a founding member of an elite association known as the Russell Group and belongs to the N8 Research Partnerships of eight top-leading research-intensive universities in England. It also became the first university in the world to offer courses in Oceanography, civic design, architecture, and biochemistry.

The university proudly upholds its high-academic standing with Ten Nobel Prize winners among its alumni and faculty. Its alumni are some of the biggest known names in the industry, which are the CEOs of GlobalFoundries, ARMHoldings, Tesco, Motorola, and The Coca-Cola Company. It also became the first in the UK and the world to establish a Sino-British university in China known as the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

Its main campus offers modern and safe student housing and villages. It is also near the urban city center of Liverpool, which gives students access to the city life, transportation, employment opportunities, the community, and their culture. The institution receives an estimate of £98.6 million for research projects and contracts. It consistently set a global standard for its cutting-edge researches and academic heritage.

How Do I Apply to University of Liverpool Scholarships?

The University of Liverpool welcomes over 9,000 international students from over 171 countries in the world. It also became the first choice of higher educational institution in the UK among students coming from abroad. The university and other external benefactors offer a wide range of funding opportunities for individuals who will pursue their studies in one of their available degree programs. Students may start their admission as early as possible to give enough time to process their eligibility for scholarships and other funding opportunities.

There are country-specific requirements from the university for every international student. The university mostly accepts A-levels types of qualifications. However, they allow other ways to apply, which include direct entry to university. Undergraduate applicants must possess a grade 4 or C at the GCSE in English and Mathematics (or equivalent qualifications). Students coming from non-English must meet the language entry requirements of their courses. They may find their desired Bachelor’s degree program and apply through the UCAS.

Postgraduate applicants may refer to the guidelines upon applying for a postgraduate taught degree or postgraduate research degree. They must be Bachelor’s or Master’s degree holders and provide proficient knowledge and skills in their study plan or research project. The university also encourages applicants to have an authorized agent handle their admission applications.

Students must acquire a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to apply for a Tier 4 Visa to gain entry in the UK and start studying at the university.

University of Liverpool Scholarships for International Students

1. University of Liverpool International College (UoLIC) Excellence Scholarships

The University of Liverpool will offer scholarships to international students who will pursue undergraduate degrees at the university. Students must be highly competitive and achieve one of the highest academic scores (at least 75%) in a UoLIC Foundation Certificate program. They must also apply for admission at the university to qualify for the scholarship.

The university will grant 15 individuals from every part of the world. Students may choose any areas of disciplines (except for degrees in clinical studies) upon applying for full-time undergraduate studies at the university. They should also be responsible for paying their tuition fees at an overseas rate. Awardees may receive up to £5,000 of tuition fee reduction on their first year of Bachelor’s degree at the university.

They will receive the award once they enter the UK at the start of their first term of study. There is no separate application for this scholarship. Students will automatically get a nomination once they apply for admission at the university.

2. Vice-Chancellor’s International Attainment Scholarships

The Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships scheme is an excellent University of Liverpool scholarship that will help high-achieving international students pursuing their Master’s studies. Students commencing their full-time postgraduate Master’s program will receive the award. The scholarship applies as a tuition fee reduction that students pay at an international rate.

Applicants must hold a first-class degree honors, or equivalent, as defined by the university for every country. They must also achieve an IELTS score of at least level 7 in Speaking and Writing and a 6.5 in Reading and Listening. Students who attained their Bachelor’s degree at Liverpool International College, XJTLU, or the University of Liverpool, are not eligible for this scholarship scheme. Candidates must also not be receiving any fully-funded scholarships from the government or other organizations.

There will be no separate application for this scholarship program. The university will automatically consider students who submit an admission application in a Master’s degree program at Liverpool. However, those who are in a Master’s in Architecture or Philosophy will not receive the award.

3. International Postgraduate Research Scholarship

The University of Liverpool has many scholarships opportunities for doctoral students across different areas of study in every part of the world. The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship is for international students who will pursue a Ph.D. research program at the university. This scholarship only applies to students who have a laboratory-based research study or project.

Students who are enrolling for a research degree in Tropical Medicine will not be eligible for the scholarship. Their studies must also only be laboratory-based. They should also be commencing their first year of Ph.D. degree and are not continuing from a previous year of study. The scholarship is also not available for students transferring to the University of Liverpool, especially when there’s already an alternative payment involved.
