How Do I Apply to York University and its Scholarships?

Before sending an application to York University, you first have to comply with all their minimum entry and program-specific requirements. These requirements can also be different from country to country. You can check these requirements on the Admission and Application Procedures for International Students page.

If you are qualified, you can already prepare your application and documents for submission. The common documents required for undergraduate and certificate programs are your official transcripts, course descriptions, English language test scores, and additional course-specific documents.

You can send your application via York University’s online system or through the mail. Since the programs are taught in English or French, you have to show you meet the required level of language proficiency to take the course. If you are taking a course in English, you can submit one of the following minimum test scores: 83 in TOEFL iBT, 6.5 in IELTS, 60 in Pearson PTE Academic, and 115 in Dulongino, to name a few. However, you can be exempted from submitting an English certificate for some exceptions such as if you studied in an accredited high school where English is the primary language.

For applications under the Faculty of Graduate Studies, refer to their academic requirements and application procedures. You have to meet their language proficiency requirements, as well as academic requirements for graduate diplomas, master’s programs, and doctoral programs.

If you are ready to apply, you can gather all the documents for admission including two official sealed copies of transcripts, sealed recommendation letters, statement of interest, written work or portfolios, CV or resumé, test scores, and additional course-related documents. These documents will be evaluated and sent to the appropriate graduate program office. If you are accepted, you are given an offer of admission letter and an initial registration.

After completing your application, you can search for available scholarships on their scholarship page for international students. Most scholarships are given automatically as long as you meet their minimum requirements for eligibility. These scholarships can be applied separately through the International Student Scholarship & Award Application or applied along with your initial application at York University.
