In 1939, Hanyang University was founded by Dr. Kim Lyun-Joon in South Korea. Before it adopted Seoul’s former name, Hanyang, the university was called Dong-A Engineering Institute and was the first to offer engineering and architecture programs in the country. From a little over 600 students and 35 faculty, the university is set to become one of the country’s leading academic institutions.

Besides its Seoul campus, the university built a satellite campus in Ansan, called the Education Research Industry Cluster at Ansan, or ERICA campus. It has 23 colleges, 100 departments, and 19 graduate schools across its two campuses. It is also home to over 35,000 students and more than 4,600 staff. With its ideal location at the country’s capital, Hanyang University is widely preferred among international students, making up 10% of its student population. Here is some information on Hanyang University scholarships for international students.

How do I apply to Hanyang University Scholarships?

Before applying for undergraduate studies, international applicants must confirm the availability of their preferred program. Moreover, applicants must be sure to meet the language requirements for their selected program. Otherwise, they might need to enroll in a supplementary language course to meet the language requirements. After complying with the eligibility requirements, prospective students may proceed with an online application to apply at the Seoul campus, ERICA campus, or both. You can find more information on undergraduate admission here.

For graduate admissions, applicants must also meet the entry and language requirements of their chosen program. Besides the standard courses in Korean, the university offers English-track programs, Russian Studies, and Chinese Studies. Moreover, they must submit their application through the Office of International Affairs in Seoul. The Office of International Affairs also provides the admissions results. The university automatically considers undergraduate and graduate applicants for most of its scholarships and selects awardees after the admissions. Thus, there’s no need to submit a separate scholarship application. Information on these scholarships is included in the admission guide downloadable from the university website. Meanwhile, there are other scholarships that students can apply for during their semester at the university.

To be qualified, applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA in their previous semester and have a TOPIK level certificate, with extra points given depending on the level. Moreover, their insurance must not be expired on the period they chose to apply for the scholarship.

Students who are scholarship holders from other organizations such as the Global Korea Scholarship are not eligible to apply. Moreover, taking a leave of absence after applying for the scholarship disqualifies the applicants.
