How do I apply to University of Copenhagen Scholarships?
The University of Copenhagen welcomes about 2,000 international students to their campuses. It offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to those who apply and receive an acceptance or admission to their available undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs.
Bachelor’s degree courses are only available in Danish. Hence, students must meet the required Danish language qualifications. Additionally, undergraduate degree applicants should have completed their upper secondary or high school education with a GPA equivalent to Danish 6.0. The university may require students in some countries to supplement their high school qualifications with one or two years of higher education or two courses (of at least one A-level subject and at least one B-level subject).
Applicants for a Master’s degree may choose over 50 different courses taught in the English language. They must be a Bachelor’s degree holder from an internationally recognized university. There are specific requirements that vary depending on their chosen programs.
Doctoral students must follow the regulations and guidelines to apply for the available Ph.D. programs at the university.
University of Copenhagen Scholarships for International Students
1. Danish Government Scholarship

The Danish Government will award outstanding international students who will pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Copenhagen. It will only recognize the academic merits of applicants, not the need for financial aid. There are no separate applications for these scholarships, as eligible students who apply for admission at the university will be automatically nominated.
Students must hold foreign citizenship from countries outside the EU, EEA (the European Economic Area), or Switzerland. They should receive a letter of admission or acceptance to commence their Master’s degree at the university. Additionally, students must have applied and received a time-limited residence permit to study at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark to be eligible for the awards.
These University of Copenhagen scholarships are offered in a limited number and will only award students applying for Masters of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Masters in Sciences. Students with exceptional talents and skills and outstanding academic records will have higher chances of receiving the award. There are specific terms and conditions for the scholarships in every designated faculty.
2. Gen Foundation Scholarships

The Gen Foundation will award students of all nationalities and backgrounds to pursue higher education at an eligible international university worldwide. It aims to promote the importance of the cross-cultural relationship between Japan and the rest of the world. The Foundation was established in 1988 with the Charity Commission. Since then, it has offered over 100 scholarships to different individuals studying or researching in the field of natural sciences, particularly in food sciences/technology.
Students must have received an offer for admission or acceptance letter to study for a Master’s degree in Food Science/Technology at the University of Copenhagen. They must be holding a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent to be eligible for the award. Applicants must download and fill out the scholarship application form and submit it to the university, including a comprehensive resume, reference letters, and acceptance letters.
The Foundation will equally provide these scholarship opportunities available at the University of Copenhagen. Regardless of their color, race, nationality, ethnicity, religious beliefs, marital status, sexual orientation, and disability, or age, they will have a chance to receive the award.

3. The Aga Khan Foundation Scholarship

- Degrees offered: Master’s and/or Ph.D.
The Aga Khan Foundation will give scholarships available to the University of Copenhagen to outstanding students from selected developing countries pursuing a postgraduate degree. It will only award a limited number of candidates prioritizing students applying for Master’s level of courses. However, it may consider those who will pursue a Ph.D. degree if they provide a high recommendation/referral from their professors.
The scholarship is on a 50% grant and 50% loan basis, which must be paid by students with a 5% annual service charge within five years, starting six months after their study period. It will only cover the tuition fees and living expenses of students. Doctoral students must find alternative or external funding sources as the Foundation will only cover the first two years of their study period.
Applicants must be from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, and Mozambique and are under 30 years old. They must be holding excellent academic records and provide a genuine and valid reseason for their financial needs. Students should receive an offer for admission on a degree or course relating to the Aga Khan Developing Network focus areas. They should also submit clear and articulated academic and career plans along with their extra-curricular interests and achievements. The Foundation prefers applicants who are most likely to achieve their goals and succeed in a completely foreign environment.
Students must get a physical copy and submit the application form at the AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services / Boards in their home countries.
