As the oldest and most prestigious international scholarship attainable, the Rhodes Scholarship is one of the most prized scholarships in the world. Established in 1902 by the will of Cecil Rhodes, they were awarded to students from all over the world for postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.

Today, the Rhodes Scholarship is available to all applicants from all around the world, regardless of gender. In order to enhance mutual understanding between countries and foster future leaders who will transform the world, the program chooses promising young people.

Scholarship Amount for Rhodes Scholarships

The Rhodes Scholarships are a fully funded scholarship that covers all University tuition fees, university application fee, a living stipend of £15,900 per year (Kindly note that this is not sufficient to cover partners or dependents), visa processing fees, two economy class flights to and from the UK for the start and end of studies at Oxford, and a settling-in allowance of £225.

The Rhodes Scholarship is valid for two years for individuals with excellent academic performance and personal behavior. On the other hand, scholars who choose to pursue a DPhil (Ph.D.) at Oxford may have their Scholarship extended for the third year.

Eligibility Criteria

Rhodes Scholarships are only available to citizens of Rhodes-eligible nations; all other applicants may apply for the Global Rhodes Scholarship.

The primary eligibility criteria are: you must be at least 18 years old and under 24 years of age; or, the applicant must be under 27 years old and have completed or will complete the requirements for a first degree by October 1, Applicants must have finished an undergraduate degree with a First Class or GPA of 3.70 out of 4.0 (or equivalent), and If English isn’t your first language or if you are not a citizen from a majority of English-speaking countries, then you should meet the English language proficiency requirements of the University of Oxford.

How do I apply to Rhodes Scholarships?

In order to apply for the Global Scholarship, your university must first nominate you. Nominations for the award are limited to a certain amount per university every year. In order to submit your form, you must first register the most appropriate nominator using the application form.

Before you may submit your application, it must be approved by a member of staff at Rhodes House. As soon as you have completed the form, you will be able to confirm your eligibility by ticking a box. You will be then notified via email within 2 working days regarding your eligibility.

After June 1, you can apply online via the Scholarships link. If your country is not listed in the country/region drop-down, select the global option from the drop-down list. The candidates who have been longlisted may be invited to a preliminary interview via Skype.

Candidates who have been shortlisted will be invited to a social engagement as well as a final interview for Rhodes Scholarships. The final interview will be placed soon after the social engagement event. For 30 to 45 minutes, you will be interviewed by six to nine panelists. All candidates will be notified via email regarding the outcome of their application.

Rhodes Scholarship Documentation Components

In order to apply for the Rhodes scholarships, you must fill out an online application and attach digital copies of a few documents. documents to verify age & nationality such as passports, birth certificates, or other government-issued IDs can be used as proof of age and nationality.

A letter of endorsement from your college or university is required for Rhodes Scholarships: This is a letter from your institution’s President, Dean, or another official in charge of graduate fellowships recommending your candidacy for the Rhodes Scholarship is also required.

A certified transcript from the college or university where you are currently or have previously studied, demonstrating your academic performance is needed.

Proficiency in the English language is a must: an English test that is accepted by Oxford University (e.g. TOEFL or IELTS) should be uploaded, together with the test’s scoring structure.

If you match the University of Oxford’s criteria for a waiver, you can upload a letter requesting a waiver. If you are a graduate student, you must have at least 5-8 letters of recommendation, and at least 1 must relate to your character and engagement in extracurricular or leadership activities.

You should also attach a CV that highlights your most recent achievements and projects. It should clearly outline your abilities and strengths, making it simple to understand your career trajectory. A head-to-shoulders colored photograph is also required.

Apart from the documentation, a 750-word academic statement of the study; an essay demonstrating why you chose Oxford university, why you are eligible for the program, and your future career plans, and a personal statement less than 1000 words is mandatory: an essay in which you inform the selection committee about who you are, what is important to you, and what your goals are.

Deadlines for Rhodes Scholarships

The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. U.S Eastern Time on the first Wednesday of October.
