Keimyung University (KMU) is a top-leading private university in Daegu, South Korea. It officially started its operations as a Christian university in 1954. However, the educational institution traces its roots back to the late 1890s. It is well-known for its Keimyung-Chopin Music Academy which, professors are from the F. Chopin Academy of Music in Poland. In this article, we will be covering some of the top Keimyung University scholarships for international students.

How Do I Apply to Keimyung University Scholarships?

Keimyung University welcomes over 2,000 international students across the globe. It also offers scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate students who obtain admission and enrolls in the university. The value of the scholarships will refer to the TOPIK results of the applicants.

Undergraduate applicants must be high school graduates with good grades and undergo a practical examination (as a requirement in some departments). They must meet the entry requirements of their desired courses. Generally, it includes their statement of purpose, official high school graduation certificate and transcripts, certificate of Korean or English proficiency test, financial documents, student’s visa, valid copy of passport or I.D. card. Additionally, students should submit these required documents with Certificates of Authentication, issued by the Korean Embassy or Consulates of their home countries.

Postgraduate applicants for Master’s and/or Ph.D. degree programs must have foreign citizenship and have completed their previous education in an international educational institution. They should be Bachelor’s or Master’s degree holders and meet the entry requirements of their desired courses to gain admission offer from the university.

International students must obtain a Level 3 or higher on the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) or pass the required minimum of English Language entry requirements (for English-taught courses. Furthermore, applicants whose native language is Chinese may apply to a Bilingual Program.

Keimyung University Scholarships

1. Admission Scholarship

Keimyung University will provide scholarships to international students who will pursue a degree in one of their available undergraduate programs. Students may benefit from the Admission Scholarship during the 1st semester of their first year. Depending on their academic performance, they may receive a Student Achievement Scholarship as they progress on their 2nd semester.

Students must hold overseas citizenship and obtain an offer for admission in their chosen undergraduate degree program. To apply for admission, students must submit their statement of purpose, official high school certificates and academic transcripts, certificate of Korean or English proficiency test, financial documents, and an identification card with their admission application forms.

Students may receive 100% off their tuition fees if they present a TOPIK level 5 and higher. A 50% tuition fee reduction and 100% off admission fees for applicants with TOPIK level 4 and a 50% tuition fee waiver for those with TOPIK level 3.

Moreover, they may continue to receive scholarships (now a Student Achievement Scholarship) on their 2nd semester, depending on their academic performance during their 1st semester. Students who completed and passed all their courses and obtained a GPA above 4.2 will receive a 100% tuition fee waiver for the second semester. Those with more than a 3.0 GPA will get a 50% tuition fee reduction. Meanwhile, a 30% off for those with more than a 2.0 GPA.

2. Language Ability Excellence Scholarship

The Language Ability Excellence Scholarship is a one-time Keimyung University scholarship given to international students providing excellent levels of Korean language proficiency. International students applying for an undergraduate degree program at Keimyung University or Keimyung Adams College may receive the award. They must meet certain levels of Korean or English language proficiency depending on their respective departments or faculties.

Students from any department, except Keimyung Adams College, must provide qualifications above TOPIK level 4. However, those from the Colleges of Physical Education, Music & Performing Arts, and Fine Arts may have scores above TOPIK level 3. Furthermore, students of Keimyung Adams College must present a TOEFL IBT 80 or IELTS with an overall score of 5.5. They may also use their qualifications on the TEPS (Test of English Proficiency developed by Seoul National University) with an overall score of above 550.

Students may receive KRW 500,000 to support their education while living in South Korea.

3. Scholarships for Graduate Students

Keimyung University recognizes outstanding international students applying for a graduate degree coursework or research offered by the university. They may benefit from one of the six available Keimyung University scholarships depending on their TOPIK levels. Students may expect to receive awards for four (4) semesters (with a minimum of 6 credits each semester without any failed course).

Students must be Bachelor’s or Master’s degree holders. They must provide proof of their citizenship. Additionally, students should have completed at least 12 years of primary and secondary education. Furthermore, they must have a TOPIK level 3 or higher and maintain average grades of 80 points every semester.

Students with TOPIK Level 6 and an average grade of 95 or higher from the previous semester may receive 100% off their tuition fees through the Special excellence Scholarship. Those with TOPIK level 6 (grades below 95) may still get a 70% tuition fee waiver. Those with TOPIK level 5 will benefit from a 60% tuition fee waiver. Meanwhile, students with TOPIK Level 4 (with TOEFL iBT 80, an IELTS 5.5, or TEPS 600 or higher) will receive a 60% tuition fee reduction. A 30% tuition fee reduction for those with TOPIK level 3 and 20% off for students receiving a recommendation from their respective departments.
