Considered as one of Asia’s greatest universities, the National University of Singapore is a national research university known for its large community of students and staff who are all working hand in hand towards an innovative future. Here, we will discuss the various National University of Singapore scholarships for international students.

It has three campuses, one in Kent Ridge, another in Bukit Timah, and one more in Outram. The campuses are equipped with 17 faculties and schools, 13 of which are undergraduate schools while 4 are graduate schools. In line with this, there are 60 Bachelor’s degrees and 154 Master’s degrees, Doctoral degrees, & Graduate diplomas to choose from at the university.

Having its humble beginnings in the year 1905, the institution was formerly known as Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States Government Medical School. At the time, the school only had 23 students. How do I apply to the National University of Singapore Scholarships?

The National University of Singapore welcomes students across undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs.

National University of Singapore Scholarships for International Students

1. ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship (AUS)

  • Scholarship Amount: S$5,800 for yearly living expenses plus tuition fees (once the scholar is also a MOE Tuition Grant recipient)
  • Degrees Offered: Bachelor’s

This National University of Singapore scholarship program is open to all top academic performers from ASEAN member countries (excluding Singapore) and these include students from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, & Vietnam.

Aside from being a superb student and a citizen of an ASEAN member country, applicants need to have a sense of leadership as well as active participation in extracurricular activities from when they were in high school. Also, only those who are to pursue a full-time undergraduate degree will be considered for the grant.

Moreover, to receive full scholarship benefits, it is necessary for grantees to take up the MOE Tuition Grant. This entails that after graduation, the scholar is obligated to work at a Singapore-registered establishment for a duration of 3 years. As for the scholars who graduated from Dentistry and Medicine, they will be required to engage in a service bond with the Singapore Ministry of Health.

For this scholarship at the National University of Singapore, there is no special application needed. The submitted application for admission into the undergraduate program is what will be utilized for the selection process of scholars.

2. Science & Technology (S&T) Undergraduate Scholarship

    • Tuition fees and compulsory fees (once the scholar is also a MOE Tuition Grant recipient)
    • S$6,000 yearly living expenses
    • S$200 one-time stipend after the student finishes the enrollment process
    • Yearly accommodation stipend
    • Two plane tickets, one will be given at the start of student’s undergraduate study (home country to Singapore) and another one to be given at the end of the said study (Singapore to home country)
  • Degrees Offered: Bachelor’s

The Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship is a generous program meant for exceptional students in the field of science & technology from Asian countries, excluding Singapore.

Besides being a citizen of an Asian country, the criteria are similar to the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship. Applicants also need to have leadership potential and active extracurricular participation back in their high school days.

Furthermore, this National University of Singapore scholarship is only offered to those who will be taking up any of the 24 courses spread out in the School of Computing, Faculty of Engineering, School of Computing & Faculty of Engineering, and College of Humanities and Sciences. After graduation, scholars are required to be in the service of a Singapore-registered establishment.

Again, much like the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship, there is no special application needed for this scholarship. The submitted application for undergraduate admission is also the one to be used for the selection process of scholars.

3. NUS Research Scholarship

    • For Master’s students, the total scholarship amount includes a monthly stipend of S$1,500 and tuition fees
    • For PhD students, the total scholarship amount includes a monthly stipend of S$2,000, tuition fees, and they may also receive an additional stipend per month once they pass the PhD Qualifying Examination (QE)
  • Degrees Offered: Master’s and PhD

A scholarship grant awarded to top-level students of all nationalities, the NUS Research Scholarship is open for those who are about to pursue their Master’s or their PhD. To apply for this scholarship at National University of Singapore, it must be indicated in the incoming postgraduate student’s admission application.

The scholars are to maintain satisfactory grades in order to renew their scholarships. Additionally, the maximum scholarship duration is two years for Master’s students and four years for PhD students.
