The University of Auckland is a comprehensive public research university found in the harbor city of Auckland, New Zealand. It was founded in 1883 as Auckland University College and became one of the constituent institutions of the University of New Zealand. How Do I Apply to University of Auckland Scholarships?

The University of Auckland welcomes over 7,000 international students that represent 120 countries across the globe. It also became one of the top choices of students because of its many available scholarship programs. Students will have to apply for admission and receive an offer to study to qualify for the scholarships.

Applicants will have to fulfill the specific undergraduate and postgraduate entry requirements of the university. Generally, their academic records, work experience, reference letters, and English Language test scores will be the basis for selection. Those who demonstrate excellent leadership skills and active engagement in sports or other extracurricular activities will surely score their applications. Furthermore, international students must have a GPE score above 5.0 to guarantee a place at the university.

The University of Auckland Scholarships for International Students

1. University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship

The University of Auckland will grant more than 50 scholarships to high-caliber international students who want to study in New Zealand. It awards all nationalities except those who graduated from the University of Aukland or finished high school inside the country. The scholarship program opens in two semesters every year for students who will study at an undergraduate or postgraduate program at the University of Aukland.  Students applying for a degree in Bachelor’s and/or Masters (excluding Masters by thesis) at the university may receive a scholarship worth up to $10,000. The funding period only lasts for one year or covers the first-year tuition fees of their studies.

Master’s degree applicants must have finished their Bachelor’s degree at a state-recognized institution (except the University of Auckland Foundation Providers and Taylors College). Meanwhile, undergraduate applicants must be international students who got their high-school qualifications outside New Zealand. Students should also be liable for paying their full tuition fees at the university.

Students must receive an unconditional offer (or conditional offer for English Language Academy qualifiers) to study at the university and hold a grade point equivalent (GPE) of at least 6.00. Their academic merits, application letter, referral letter, and country of origin will be the basis for the selection process. The scholarship applies to all taught courses at the university (except for a Research Masters program or a Business Masters program in the Graduate School of Management). The online portal will open once the scholarship application period starts again.

2. Asian Development Bank Scholarship Program

The Asian Development Bank will award scholarships to international students from their 68 member countries to undertake a Master’s degree at the University of Auckland. Students must be applying to study for Public Health, Environmental Sciences, Development Studies, International Business Management, Engineering. They receive benefits including a tuition fee reduction, free flight back and forth from their country to New Zealand, living allowances, health insurance, and a budget for those with a dissertation.

Candidates must be a citizen in one of the many ADB partner countries. They should have received a letter for admission in their chosen programs, hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with proficiency in the English language. In addition to that, they should have at least 2 years of work experience and be under 35 years old upon applying for the program. Students must show good moral and communication skills and pass a health examination.

Applicants for this scholarship available at the University of Auckland must fill out the ADB-Japan Scholarship application form and mail it to the official address of the University of Auckland. They should include their letter of offer for admission and other supporting documents.

3. Dean’s International Doctoral Scholarship (FMHS)

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Auckland funds this scholarship program to award high-achieving international students who want to pursue a Ph.D. degree in an eligible program at the university. It is a highly competitive scholarship program with only 3 awards available. Students may receive up to $27,900 per annum for 3 years to support their tuition fees, living expenses, cost of relocation, and health insurance while staying and studying in New Zealand.

This University of Auckland scholarship program is open to all international students across the globe. There is no separate application for the scholarships. Students who apply for admission in a Ph.D. degree program (first doctorate study only) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences will automatically be nominated. They should be applying for a full-time study, comply with the requirements of domestic policy and regulations. They must have a GPA/GPE of at least 7.00 (depending on the required grade point of their program).

Applicants should be academically competent and present a good quality research proposal/study to gain a higher chance of getting the award.
