Being a public research institution, ETH Zurich is a highly prestigious university located in the beautiful country of Switzerland. Funded by the Swiss Federal Government, ETH Zurich receives all the necessary funding from the government, and because of this fact, the tuition fees at ETH Zurich are quite low for international applicants.

Because of its low tuition, many international students have flocked to ETH Zurich to join its academic programs. Having a huge international community, this institution has a student body of nearly 25,000 students from over 120 different countries.

Even though international applicants should be looking at universities with low tuition, you should still select an institution with high academic renown or prestige. In the case of ETH Zurich, this institution has both in its grasp.

Due to its emphasis on research, ETH Zurich has received many research grants and proposals from national and international contacts. Because of its high volume of research intake, this institution earns quite a bit of money due to its competence in research. In short, if you are interested in the STEM field or trying to get into a successful career, applying for ETH Zurich and getting scholarships might be a good place to start.

How Do I Apply To ETH Zurich Scholarships?

If you want to apply for scholarships offered by ETH Zurich, you have to first apply for admissions and get accepted into this institution. If you are interested in a bachelor’s degree, then you should take a look at the ETH Zurich Undergraduate Guide for international applicants. For students interested in a Master’s program, you can start off your search using the Master’s Admission Guide.

Last but not least, prospective doctoral students can look at their application procedure through Doctoral Admissions Guide. The underlying steps for admissions application are pretty much the same for all three programs. First, you need to select the academic area of interest that you want to apply to, and next, you will need to look at the entry requirements for that specific program.

As an admissions applicant, the language requirements can be quite hard to meet as an international student. Since most of the courses offered at ETH Zurich are taught in German, you need to show proof of German Language Proficiency before you can be accepted into any given program. Make sure to check the application criteria most carefully!

  • Degrees Offered: Undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D.

Offered to prospective international students, the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship is not given by ETH Zurich but rather funded by the Swiss Federal Government. If you want to apply for a Swiss Government Scholarship, first check the nationality requirement to see if you meet that criteria, and if you do, click on the pdf file for your specific country and see what scholarships are available for you. In addition to the nationality requirement, the Swiss Government also restricts some scholarships to only doctoral programs, so please pay close attention to small details!

Currently, ETH Zurich offers two scholarship programs for prospective graduate students. The first scholarship at ETH Zurich is called Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP), and the second one is named ETH-D Scholarship. Funded by the ETH Foundation, ESOP Scholarship Program is given to international applicants who have achieved good academic scores during their undergraduate careers.

To specify the exact details, the ESOP Scholarship Program awards a large stipend per semester to cover your living expenses. In addition, this program also includes a tuition waiver to pay off your academic expenses as well. For ETH-D Scholarship, there is a moderate stipend per semester, but the amount of money is half as much as the one given out by the ESOP Scholarship Program.

3. ETH Zurich Doctoral Scholarship

ETH Zurich offers fully-funded scholarships to some international applicants who are trying to get into a doctoral program. This comes in the form of employment contracts at ETH Zurich.
