How Do I Apply to the Free University of Berlin Scholarships?
The Free University of Berlin offers no tuition fee policy, except for some postgraduate programs. Students will only cover small fees for registration every semester or for other purposes. Those with a residence permit for study can take a job (excluding as a student tutor) to support their living costs. However, those who are receiving any sponsorships are not allowed to work.
Free University of Berlin Scholarship programs usually require students to obtain admission into one of the university’s degree programs. Before applying for admission at the university, students must request a specific list of all required documents directly to the institution as it varies depending on their country of origin.

Free University of Berlin Scholarships for International Students
1. Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship

- Degrees Offered: Undergraduate & Master’s
The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship will grant financial support and mentorship to students applying or studying at the Free University of Berlin. The German federal government and private organizations fund this program to support German and international students of all backgrounds pursuing higher education at FU Berlin. This scholarship at Free University of Berlin is open to students studying or will commence their studies in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program.
Candidates will benefit from a monthly stipend of up to €300 for one year or so. They will also receive support and mentorship from scholars and professionals.
Students must guarantee to be within the standard-time-to-degree on their major field of study during the entire funding period. However, there will be a consideration for certain circumstances, in which case students must submit a request and apply for an extension of the maximum funding period. They must provide valid reasons and appropriate documents.

2. Friedrich Erbert Stiftung Scholarship

- Scholarship Amount: €300 monthly flat-rate for a year or equivalent to two semesters; €71 for health care insurance and €155 per month for scholars with children
- Degrees Offered: Undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D.
The Friedrich Erbert Foundation will grant scholarships to outstanding students of all nationalities who want to pursue their education on an Undergraduate, Master’s, and/or Ph.D. program in one of the universities in Germany.
General requirements needed are students must have obtained admission in one of the universities (or state-recognized higher institution) based in Germany; they must also meet specific German language requirements.
Candidates may receive a monthly stipend of up to €850 for a Master’s coursework or a Bachelor’s, Diploma, Magister, or state examination program if given this scholarship at the Free University of Berlin. Additionally, scholars with a family or a child will receive a monthly allowance of €276, including health insurance.
Eligibility criteria include students must show excellent academic records and present a promising professional career. They must also commit themselves to the Foundation and should highly value the importance of social democracy.

3. Heinrich Böll Stiftung

Heinrich Böll Stiftung scholarship program is open to German/EU nationals and international students. It will provide support for individuals to pursue their Master’s/Ph.D. degrees in all fields of study at a state-recognized German or Sweden University.
This Free University of Berlin scholarship includes a monthly stipend of up to €850 per month plus additional allowances for those who study at a Master’s degree coursework. An amount of €1,200 per month and a €100 travel monthly allowance, plus other allowances, will be rewarded for Ph.D. students. Students must provide proof of their acceptance or admission at a state or state-recognized German or Sweden University.
Students for a Master’s coursework must apply before their study term and submit proof of first professional qualification.
Applicants for Ph.D. research or coursework must prove that they have completed their preliminary work within the required timetable. Students who apply for subjects closely related to the Foundation’s focal point will receive priority.
