La Statale, also known as the University of Milan, is located in Lombardy, Italy. Founded in 1924, it is considered younger than other universities in Italy. However, its performance throughout the years has proven the University of Milan’s excellence. It currently ranks very high at national rankings but recognizes the need to get better internationally.

The University of Milan is a highly inclusive academic institution where people of all genders and individuals with Specific Learning Disabilities can enjoy a safe environment for learning and personal growth. Over thirty courses in different departments are dedicated to teaching how to protect human rights. It also strives to provide a good place for learning for international students.

The university currently offers 23 English Degree Programs, most of which are Master’s Degree courses. In these programs, there are many scholarships available at the University of Milan. Faculty members and staff receive support from the university to train on Quality Assurance, use distance learning tools, and employ an international approach using English as the medium of instruction.

How do I apply to the University of Milan Scholarships?

Incoming international students at the University of Milan can receive the same scholarships and benefits available to domestic students. They may also apply for University of Milan scholarships exclusive only to international students.

International students must show proof of excellent academic standing to get a merit-based scholarship.

You must present a diploma from your home country and a legal copy of your grades. You must prepare these documents in either Italian or English language.

Depending on where you’re from, you may have to comply with the student visa requirements for an education at a university in Italy.

International students must meet the language requirement under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for university education in Italy. Some scholarships require this certification and the level requirement depends on the scholarship provider.

University of Milan Scholarships for International Students

1. Excellence Scholarship

  • Scholarship Link
  • Scholarship Amount: €6,000 and/or free tuition
  • Degrees Offered: Master

All international students admitted to a Master’s program before May 30 are eligible for this scholarship at the University of Milan. However, students don’t need to apply for the Excellence Scholarship. The University of Milan ad-hoc committee will notify selected students who can receive the award.

Fifty-three students may receive free tuition and €6,000. One hundred students may receive only free tuition fees. The committee selects first-year scholars based on their Bachelor’s Degree academic records and CV. Second-year scholars may qualify for the scholarship depending on the level of completion of first-year university credit requirements.

2. UNICORE 3.0 – University Corridors for Refugees

The University of Milan, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), offers this scholarship to Ethiopian refugees to encourage them to pursue a university education.

This scholarship program awards three successful applicants with an annual living allowance worth €3,000, free accommodation, and a canteen card for two free meals at the university.

3. Educational Corridor – Monastery of Mar Musa

  • Degrees Offered: Bachelor; Master

This University of Milan scholarship offers assistance to students from Syria who are struggling financially, having family troubles, or have remarkable volunteer works.

Applicants must have good grades, sufficient Italian or English language proficiency, and impressive CV and working experience to have better chances of winning the scholarship.

Four successful applicants may receive free accommodation and an annual living allowance worth €6,000.

4. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Scholarship

  • Degrees Offered: Master; Doctoral

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Italy offers this scholarship to international students and Italian citizens residing in other countries to pursue a postgraduate degree at the University of Milan.

The scholarship at the University of Milan covers the full tuition, a monthly allowance of €900, and health insurance coverage.

5. Need-based Scholarship

  • Degrees Offered: Bachelor; Master

750 recipients whose family income exceeds the limit for a DSU regional scholarship may receive a need-based scholarship from the University of Milan. 570 grants are for current students in their second year or higher. 135 are for new Bachelor’s Degree students, while 45 are for new Master’s Degree students.

This scholarship is available for both domestic and international students.

Interested applicants may access detailed requirements and guidelines in July when the university releases the call for applications.

6. Merit Scholarship

Domestic and international students may avail themselves of a Merit Scholarship. 130 current students in their second year onwards, and 30 new students enrolled in their first year may qualify for this scholarship at the University of Milan.

7. DSU Regional Scholarship

The Lombardy government, the Ministry of Education, and the University of Milan award the DSU Regional Scholarship to all eligible applicants who meet the income and asset limits indicated in the scholarship guidelines.

Updated details on the limits of Indicator of Equivalent Financial Situation (University ISEE) and Indicator of Equivalent Assets Situation (University ISPE) are available when the call for applications document is released.
