A public research university located in the land down under, the University of Western Australia (UWA) is one of the top universities in the world as per QS World University Rankings 2024. Furthermore, it was also the 2024’s number one university in Western Australia regarding Graduate Employability Rankings. On top of these, the Good Universities Guide 2024 deems education at the institution is at a 5-star teaching quality. As one of the Group of Eight’s members, it is widely known as one of Australia’s top-performing universities focused on research.

Its main campus is located just ten minutes from the world’s 14th most liveable city, Perth, while the secondary campus is in Albany, a five-hour drive if one is coming from the main campus. In addition to this, some of UWA’s other facilities can be found in Claremont and Nedlands.

The university has 22 schools, giving students numerous programs to choose from. Speaking of students, there are currently over 25,000 individuals studying at UWA. Additionally, more than 4,000 of them are international students from around 100 countries all across the globe. Many of these international students receive generous scholarships at the University of Western Australia. If you are a student interested in being active in co-curricular activities, worry not because the university has over 140 clubs and societies for you to join.

Moreover, a wide range of new courses will start to be offered at UWA by 2022. This includes around seven recently developed Majors and extended Majors, 13 Bachelor’s degrees, six Combined Bachelor’s degrees, five continued combined Bachelor’s degrees, 12 combined Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and one Master’s degree.

“Seek wisdom” is UWA’s motto, and sure enough, they boast of alumni who have found just that and are now thriving in their respective fields. This includes Australia’s 23rd prime minister Bob Hawke, Nobel Prize laureate Barry Marshall, 2003’s Australian of the Year Fiona Stanley, former CEO of Ansett Airlines and British Airways Sir Roderick Ian Eddington, and Australian politician Kim Beazley.

How do I apply to the University of Western Australia Scholarships?

The University of Western Australia is open to students across undergraduate, master’s, and postgraduate levels.

International undergraduates who plan to pursue their college education at UWA should start by checking the entry requirements. Deadlines for submitting the application will be subject to the course chosen by the applicant. In addition to this, applications can be made directly to UWA or via an international agent. For detailed information, view the page for International Undergraduate students on their official website.

Postgraduates, however, have the choice of taking up a Coursework or a Research degree. Application deadlines also depend on the program chosen. Now, postgraduates pursuing Coursework need to be aware of the entry requirements, which include having to meet UWA’s English language competency criteria as well as the specific requirements depending on the chosen course. It must also be noted that there is an application fee of AUD 100 and it can only be paid via credit card.

As for postgraduates pursuing Research, it is a must for them to meet all the requirements set by the Graduate Research School. Postgraduates who choose the Research Degree need to pick a supervisor to work with and then speak with the HDR Pre-candidature team, who will also be present in providing extra guidance, to confirm details regarding this. Lastly, there are no deadlines set for this unless the applicant would also like to apply for any of the university’s available scholarships.

Like undergraduates, future postgraduates of UWA can also choose to apply directly to the university or acquire the help of an international agent. With that, it is a must for all overseas students to check this page for more information.
