Peking University, also known as Beijing University, is a major research university in the Haidian District of Beijing, China. It is a world-class educational institution and one of the only universities in Asia that hosts undergraduate liberal arts colleges. It is also a member of the C9 League that is the alliance of 9 elite Chinese universities.

The main university campus is famous for retaining its traditional Chinese architecture prominent in its landscapes, campus gardens, traditional houses, historical buildings, and structures. The northern side of the campus shows the spectacular beauty of Weiming Lake, surrounded by walking paths and mini-landscaped gardens.

There are over 6,857 full-time international students from 116 countries abroad who study at Peking University every year. Many international students do receive generous scholarships at Peking University. It ranks 18th in the QS Global World Rankings and 2nd in the Asia-Pacific and emerging countries by Times Higher Education.

Peking University is one of the oldest higher educational institutions in China and the first Chinese national University to be modernized. It houses one of the largest libraries in the world, with over 8 million books.

How do I Apply to the Peking University Scholarships?

Peking University grants scholarship awards to students who guarantee admission for their chosen degree programs and coursework.

International students applying for admission to the University must meet the eligibility criteria of their desired degree program. To gain entry into Peking University, students must be above 18 but under 45 years old and hold a valid passport.

They must follow the rules and regulations of Peking University and abide by the law of the Chinese Government.

To apply for admission, applicants must submit the University’s Application Form together with their photographs. All documents such as their graduation certificate, degree diploma, transcripts for academic achievements, and Language Proficiency test must be original copies or notarized.

Students who are yet to graduate need to provide an official statement for their expected graduation date. They must also include a photocopy of their valid passport, two recommendation letters, and a personal statement. In most cases, the school they’re applying to may require other specific documents.

Peking University Scholarships for International Students

1. Peking University China Scholarship Council

  • Scholarship Amount: fully-funded scholarship package with a monthly stipend of 2,500 RMB for the undergraduate; 3,000 RMB for Master’s; and 3,500 for Ph.D. students
  • Degrees Offered: Undergraduate, Master’s, and/or Ph.D.

Peking University is one of the many schools in China that affiliates with the China Scholarship Council. The CSC scholarship program aims to strengthen the foreign relations between the People’s Republic of China to other international governments and support the success of emerging young leaders in their respective countries of origin.

All degree programs at Peking University guarantee sponsorship from the China Scholarship Council. Annually, the Chinese government funds this scholarship grant to support undergraduate and graduate studies of international students at over 274 Chinese higher educational institutions.

Candidates who either directly apply for a degree program at a University or submit their applications to a Chinese Embassy of their home country will have the potential to receive the scholarship grant. Guaranteed scholars will benefit from a fully-funded scholarship grant with a monthly stipend, a tuition fee waiver, accommodation allotment, healthcare insurances, and other living expenses.

Students may file an online application for this Peking scholarship grant by registering through the Chinese Government Scholarship log-in portal. They should know beforehand whether they must submit their CSC application form with all the required documents for admission application at Peking University.

In most cases, the University may require students to email their documents to their official address.

Students who will receive an acceptance letter from a professor of Peking University will have a much higher chance of getting the scholarship.

2. Peking University Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: fully covered tuition fees with a monthly stipend of 2,000 RMB for undergraduate; 2,500 for Master’s; and a 3,000 RMB for doctoral students
  • Degrees Offered: Undergraduate, Master’s, and/or Ph.D.

Peking University funds a scholarship program that provides an opportunity for outstanding students to study for free in one of its colleges. This scholarship at Peking University will cover the tuition fees of undergraduate and postgraduate students applying for a degree or research coursework in 9 target areas of study such as Basic Medical Sciences, Mathematical Research, Engineering (Electronic, Computer, and Information), Humanities, and Social Sciences, Economic and Management, and Health Science Center.

Eligible applicants will receive a full tuition fee waiver, monthly stipend, health insurance, and accommodation within the University during their full-time study in their designated programs and courses.

Applicants must be non-Chinese residents with good health and above 18 but not over 45 years of age. They should already obtain admission in an undergraduate or Master’s/Ph.D. program at the University and are not receiving any other sponsorships. The school will guide them through their application.

3. Beijing Government Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: a tuition fee waiver of 20,000 RMB for bachelor’s; 30,000 RMB for master’s; and a 50,000 RMB for Ph.D. degree a year
  • Degrees Offered: Undergraduate, Master’s, and/or Ph.D.

The Beijing Municipal Government funds a support grant for international students who want to study or are currently undertaking their education in one of the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) of Beijing, China. This scholarship program at Peking University will fully/partially cover the tuition fees of students. Applicants may choose a degree in Philosophy, Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Management, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, and Art to be eligible for the scholarship.

All nationalities can apply for this Peking University funding program except those that hold a Chinese residency. Students applying for undergraduate coursework should be under 30 years old and obtained a high school diploma with passing grades. For postgraduate studies, applicants for the Master’s program must be under 35 years old and hold a Bachelor’s degree. Meanwhile, Ph.D. applicants must be under 40 years old and obtained a Master’s degree diploma.

The BGS will only grant students that have confirmed their admission at Peking University. They must not be receiving any sponsorships from other organizations.

Students may submit the application form together with all the required documents on the Chinese consulates of their home country.
