Fudan University is one of China’s top leading educational institutions. Based in the sub-center of Shanghai, Fudan was established as a public school in 1905. Still, it was not until the year 2000 when it emerged as a formal university after a merger with Shanghai’s Medical University.

Today, it has 4 campuses with more than 35 schools and departments that offer more than 11 different areas. Its libraries hold millions of books and its faculties host thousands of researchers.

It also houses more than 4000 international students from around the world. The city’s competitive environment and the extracurricular activities offered by the university make it a great destination for aspiring applicants.

Fudan University is a member of the C9 League and is on track to become a Class A Double First Class University by 2050. Currently, it is ranked #34 in QS Top Universities’ Ranking with an overall score of 79.9.

How do I apply to Fudan University’s Scholarships?

Both Fudan University and the government of China offer scholarships for international students. To be eligible for any of these, you must apply to one of the following programs:

Undergraduate

There are two majors offered for international applicants.

Program in Economics

This program offers students a curriculum based on economics and liberal arts. It is aimed at undergraduates planning to go to corporate organizations or math’s and economic theory graduate studies after graduation.

To apply to this program, applicants must have a high school education and be qualified for the university. They must also be deemed as foreign citizens for at least 2 years prior to their incorporation into the program.

The online application is filled online, along with basic documentation. One thing to know is that two recommendation letters must be sent directly by the writers to the admissions committee.

Medical Program

This English-taught medical undergraduate program has been offered by Fudan since 2008. It aims to prepare students for a medical career based on solid medical competencies and clinical practices.

The requirements are similar to the previous program.

Graduate

Fudan University offers two types of postgraduate programs: a 3 year Master’s academic degree or a 3-4 year Doctoral program.

To be eligible for either of these programs, applicants must have the appropriate qualifications according to their desired degree. A thing to note is that English-taught programs have different requirements according to the program. On the other hand, majors taught in Chinese require an HSK test of Level 5 or above.

Applicants must send their online application in time along with transcripts, recommendation letters, and a personal statement.

Fudan’s Scholarships for International Students

1. Shanghai Government Scholarship

Shanghai’s Government Scholarship is a fund made especially for international students. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and be under a certain age threshold to apply.

This scholarship at Fudan University gives a living stipend of 3000 – 3500 RMB per month depending on the level of study. Additionally, it exempts students from paying their tuition fees, provides free on-campus accommodation and medical insurance.

2. Chinese Government Scholarship

China’s government offers various types of scholarships for international students. The Chinese Government Scholarship is a special program for students wanting to study their graduate studies in the country. Applicants must be accepted into any of these programs. Yet, it is important to note that joint degree programs and language and literature programs are not applicable for this grant.

This scholarship at Fudan University exempts students from paying Funan’s tuition fees and provides them with free accommodation. Additionally, it grants a living stipend between 3000 and 3500 RMB per month. Finally, it also includes a comprehensive medical insurance service for the chosen student.

To apply, applicants must complete the form before the deadline on the government’s webpage. All students must register under the Type B category of this program correctly to be taken into consideration.

3. Confucius Institute Scholarship

Confucius Institute’s Scholarship is a program that focuses on students wanting to major in Chinese language education.

This Fudan University scholarship grants full coverage of tuition fees, free accommodation and provides a living allowance.

Applications are received on the Institute’s webpage. To apply, students must have a senior high school diploma and a specific score on the HSK Test.
