How Do I Apply to Lund University Scholarships?

Lund University welcomes more than 8,000 international students every year. The population is about 20% of its overall student enrollees, proving that it is a certified international institution. It also offers many scholarships to assist students in their tuition fees and expenses while pursuing a degree and living in Sweden. Students will have the opportunities to access these scholarships once they gain entry at the university.

Undergraduate applicants must have completed their upper secondary education (post-16) or equivalent qualifications that give them access to universities in their home countries. Students from non-English speaking countries must demonstrate specific levels of English language proficiency, which will depend on their chosen degree programs.

Postgraduate applicants must also show good levels in an English proficiency examination providing at least a level 6 in IELTS or a 90% in TOEFL. Some courses may ask for higher levels and other specific admission requirements. Students must have completed their Bachelor’s degree at an internationally recognized university.

Students applying for doctoral programs must have completed courses with 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from their Master’s level of studies. Generally, they must also provide proficient knowledge and skills in their research study or project plan.

Lund University Scholarships for International Students

1. Lund University Global Scholarships

The Lund University Global Scholarships are for high-achieving international students who will undertake their Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree at Lund University in Sweden. It is one of the many scholarship grants funded by the university, with an estimate of SEK 15 million every year. This scholarship is highly competitive, which only awards individuals that show high academic merits in their class. The financial needs of students are not the basis of the selection process.

This scholarship at Lund University is exclusive to international students who are liable to pay their tuition fees. Students must complete their application in an undergraduate or Master’s program for one semester of study (with 30 ECTS) at Lund University. Those who get to rank as first choice in their chosen program will receive priority. The scholarship will only cover the tuition fees of students. Hence, they must find a source to cover their living costs when they start studying in Sweden.

Students may apply for the scholarship once they have submitted their admission application and paid the fees. The online portal will open once the application period commences.

2. Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals

The Sweden Ministry of Foreign Affairs will award international students from 42 selected countries across the globe. Candidates for the award must show excellent professional work and demonstrate knowledge in their areas of interest that will address the issues in their country.

The Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals will enable future leaders to foster their knowledge and skills in one of the best universities in Sweden. It is a highly competitive scholarship program with only 4%-6% among the applicants successfully receive the award.

Students must have applied for admission and enrolled in a full-time Master’s program at Lund University. The maximum funding period runs only for two years, which cannot be extended nor changed. Students must be coming from eligible countries and have a minimum of at least 3,000 hours of working experience. There are specific conditions for students with dual citizenship and those who previously studied and graduated at a Sweden university. Some eligibility criteria may also vary depending on the home country of the applicant.

The general requirements for this scholarship available at Lund University include a motivation letter, curriculum vitae, letters of reference, a copy of a valid passport, and proof of work experience. The online portal will only open during the scholarship application period.

3. Gen Foundation Scholarships

The Gen Foundation aims to award students of all nationalities and backgrounds to pursue higher education in international universities. It aims to give equal opportunities to committed students. Since its registration in 1998, the Foundation has awarded over 100 individuals in different backgrounds, races, and countries of origin.

Students who will pursue a postgraduate degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in the field of natural sciences, particularly in food sciences and/or technology, are eligible to apply. Grantees may receive up to  £5,000 (approximately SEK 59,200) to cover their tuition fees at the university. Applicants must be Bachelor’s or Master’s degree holders and apply for admission in eligible postgraduate programs at Lund University.
