How do I apply to Maastricht University Scholarships?

Aspiring students from other countries who want to study at Maastricht University must obtain an entry visa and a study permit or residence permit to study in the Netherlands.

International students must check whether the scholarship providers require applicants to be officially enrolled in or hold a conditional offer for admission to the program.

Prepare an updated CV highlighting excellent academic achievement and outstanding extracurricular activities. Secure a reference or recommendation letter from a former professor or employer from your home country. You may need to provide the contact details of your referee.

When applying to multiple scholarship programs, applicants must prepare several motivation letters. Each motivation letter must be specifically constructed to match the requirements and expectations of the scholarship providers. You must avoid using generic motivation letters. It will help increase your chances of winning a scholarship.

Most importantly, be sure to meet the deadlines of applications.

Maastricht University Scholarships for International Students

1. Orange Knowledge Program (OKP)

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds the Orange Knowledge Program that offers scholarships for short-term study or full-term Master’s Degree. Depending on the program term, the scholarship may cover the tuition fees, living allowance, travel cost, and more.

2. Maastricht University Holland Euregion Refugee Scholarship

Non-EU/EEA applicants holding a refugee residence permit in Belgium or Germany may apply for the scholarship. Scholars have to pay €2,143 in statutory tuition fees. The scholarship will cover the remaining institutional tuition fee.

Applicants must hold conditional approval for admission to Maastricht University before applying for the scholarship.

Students who want to apply to master’s programs in Medicine and Physician-Clinical Investigator may not apply for this scholarship.

3. Candriam Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: €14,000 or more per year
  • Degrees Offered: Bachelor; Master (School of Business and Economics)

Maastricht University School of Business and Economics students from EU/EEA member countries, Switzerland, or Suriname whose parents have not pursued higher education may apply for the Candriam Scholarship.

Every year, this Maastricht University scholarship provides €2,168, or the full cost of the tuition fees, study materials allowance worth €600, and an annual living allowance worth €11,400. The scholarship covers three years of bachelor’s programs and one year of master’s programs.

4. Maastricht University Holland – High Potential Scholarship

Incoming students from countries outside EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Suriname may apply for this scholarship. You may select from eligible one-year or two-year Master Programs listed on the scholarship link.

The scholarship amount covers the tuition waiver, monthly stipend, health insurance, visa application cost, and pre-academic training cost.

Applicants must show proof of excellent academic performance in their Bachelor’s Degree in their home country. You must be below 35 years old before the program commencement date. Maastricht University will select from the top 5% of the applicants.

5. Civil Society Leadership Awards

One international student from five different master’s programs at Maastricht University may receive the Civil Society Leadership Awards. This scholarship available for Maastricht University covers the tuition fees, monthly allowance, travel cost, and more. Scholars must show strong intent to influence positive social change in their home countries.

6. Orange Tulip Scholarship

The Netherlands Education Support Offices offer this scholarship to students from participating countries: India, Indonesia, Korea, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, and Vietnam. Applicants must check what faculty of study the scholarship covers in their country. Applicants must apply directly to the NESO in their home countries.

The Orange Tulip Scholarship covers the total cost of the tuition fees of successful applicants for the whole duration of the program.

7. NN Future Matters Scholarship

  • Scholarship Link
  • Scholarship Amount: €5,000 (except for students from Japan and Turkey)
  • Degrees Offered: Master

This Maastricht University scholarship is available for students from EEA member countries, Japan, and Turkey. The list of eligible countries may change every year, so applicants must check the scholarship link for updated information.

Scholars from Japan and Turkey may receive up to €20,000 due to the higher tuition fees for students from outside the EEA.
