Radboud University is a public research university in Nijmegen, Netherlands. Its name is in honor of Saint Radboud, who was a Dutch Bishop in the 9th century. It is internationally recognized for its high number of excellent research outputs. In 2016, it joined the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities to strengthen international agreements for the exchange of knowledge in Europe. Here, we will be looking at scholarships at Radboud University for international students.

The main university campus is rich in natural preserves and located in one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. It has a lively-student friendly environment for students from the locale and abroad. It also houses the well-known Max Plank Institute for Psycholinguistics, which is a world-class research center for studies in human language and communication.

The vibrant city of Nijmegen offers many exciting things and places for students to enjoy their stay while studying. The university continues to give an excellent standard of teaching and support services to its students. International exchange students may also enjoy a free Dutch course.

Radboud University currently holds 12 Spinoza Prize laureates and 1 Nobel Prize laureate among its notable staff and alumni. It now ranks 220th in the 2022 QS World University Rankings.

How Do I Apply to Radboud University Scholarships?

Radboud University welcomes over 2,000 international students from more than 100 different countries across the globe. It offers equal funding opportunities to local and foreign individuals to study in one of their Bachelor’s and/or Master’s programs fully taught in English.

Undergraduate Applicants must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) from an internationally recognized institution. If they come from non-English speaking countries, they must meet the English language requirements of the university and/or their chosen program. Master’s degree applicants must be bachelor’s degree holders and graduates from an internationally recognized Tier-1 or Tier-2 educational institution. They must also meet specific English language requirements.

Applicants must present official high school or university transcripts, passport copy, personal statement, motivation and/or recommendation letters, proof of English language proficiency, and curriculum vitae (if applicable). The requirements may vary depending on their chosen degree programs.

Radboud University Scholarships for International Students

1. Radboud Scholarship Programme

The Radboud University proudly offers scholarships to international students who want to pursue their Master’s degree in one of their English-taught programs. The university will recognize the academic achievements and ranking of students in their previous university. The quality of their motivation and reference letters, experience in internships or volunteering, and the relevancy of their Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent qualifications) to their chosen Master’s program will be the basis for selection.

Applicants must be Bachelor’s degree holders from an international institution outside the Netherlands. Students who are yet to obtain their Bachelor’s diploma may still apply. They should gain entry or admission to a full-time Master’s degree program at the university. Additionally, they must obtain a visa for the Netherlands and meet the required English language proficiency of their chosen Master’s degree programs.

These Radboud University scholarships will cover the tuition fees of students. Hence, they will only pay about €2,209. There is a maximum of 37 available slots applicable to eight different faculties. Students may also receive other benefits, including free application costs for a visa or residence permit, health insurance, and Aon Student Insurance. They should not be recipients of other scholarship grants. The program will cover the 2-year study period of students. However, they must pass all the courses providing satisfying grades in their first year.

2. Radboud Encouragement Scholarship

The Radboud Encouragement Scholarship allows international students to fulfill their dreams of studying at a prestigious university in the Netherlands. The university aims to provide equal opportunities to students from different parts of the world. It will recognize those with high academic standing and students who are financially struggling to pay their tuition fees but are motivated to finish their degree.

The scholarships are available to students from non-EU/EEA countries who gain entry or admission to study full-time in one English-taught Master’s program at the Radboud University. Students may receive a fully-paid tuition fee and a monthly stipend of €11,100. This scholarship available at Radboud University will also cover the costs for a visa and/or residence permit application, health insurance, and liability insurance (Aon Student Insurance). They must pass all the courses in their first year to continue receiving the grant in their second year. Students should not be receiving other scholarships offered by the university or external organizations.

Students must be bachelor’s degree holders from an international institution outside the Netherlands, present proof of insufficient funds to support their studies, and meet the English language proficiency requirements of their chosen degree programs.

3. Orange Tulip Scholarship Program

The Orange Tulip Scholarship Program will provide international students from India, Indonesia, Korea, Russia, South Africa, and Vietnam to study an English-taught Master’s degree program at Radboud University. It is a highly competitive scholarship program with only 21 available slots. Students with outstanding academic achievements showing quality and articulated motivation and reference letters will most likely receive the scholarship.

Students should be Bachelor’s degree holders from an institution outside the Netherlands. They must gain entry or admission in their chosen Master’s program and meet the English language requirements.

This Radboud University scholarship will reduce the tuition fees of students up to €2,209. It will also cover the costs of their visa and residence permit application, health and liability insurance for their stay in the Netherlands. The scholarships do not apply to programs with lower tuition fees. Students must also find other sources to cover their living costs during their stay in the country.
