Incoming Master of Laws students may receive a free-tuition scholarship from the University Scholarship Foundation. Interested applicants must send their scholarship applications before they begin the program.
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from their home country and an admission letter from the University of Vienna. They must have good academic records in their previous degree to qualify for the scholarship.
The selection committee headed by the Vice-Rector for Students and Teaching chooses awardees based on language skills, academic achievements, and professional qualifications.
2. Performance Scholarship

Qualified applicants who meet the requirements indicated by StudFG may receive up to €8,580 per year in study grants. Eligible students who don’t meet the criteria may receive €6,000. The scholarship is available for Bachelor’s Degree students for seven semesters and Master’s Degree students for five semesters. Ph.D. candidates follow particular rules concerning their thesis deadlines.

3. Pre-study Scholarship for Asylum Seekers

The value of the scholarship is for tuition fee assistance for one year. The awardee has to pay the remainder of the tuition fee if the scholarship value is not enough to cover the total cost. If the student avails himself of the scholarship for only one semester, he will receive half the scholarship value, equal to €350.

The Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research (BMBWF), through the ASEAN-European Academic University Network, offers the Ernst Mach Grant to students from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The grant aims to provide financial assistance for students from the said countries to pursue studies at member universities in Austria, including the University of Vienna.
If given this scholarship available at the University of Vienna, full-time doctoral students may receive €1,050 per month for a maximum of 36 months, whereas postdoc students may receive €1,150 per month for three to nine months.
